New Book: Trail Cameras and Custom Camera Traps: Guide to Western Mammals Volume 1
The our next book are out! That means the first of 2 species volumes are available for sale online at Amazon and ItascaBooks! This one covers bears, canids, mustelids, skunks, ringtails, and coatis. Check out some sample pages and endorsement in the rest of this post.

Sample Pages
Check out the sample pages. You can see that this is much more than a picture book of cute animals. It includes range maps, tracks, signs, behavior, and camera trapping tips. Many chapters describe unanswered questions about the species, that could be answered with camera trap footage. This is not just for professionals – we love the idea of citizen scientists making new discoveries!

And if you’ve made it this far, and are wondering about the small pictures in the bottom corners of this 236-page book. These are each individual frames of a “flip book” animation. When the pages are riffed with your thumb, these images reveal video of two species covered in the book.
Advance Praise
We are very grateful to Casey Anderson and Mike Taras for providing their endorsement of our work!
“This is far more than a guide to camera trapping, it’s a field guide to finding, understanding, and successfully photographing North America’s wildlife. Drawing on the authors’ extensive field experience, it combines tracking, behavior, camera placement, and proven techniques into a comprehensive resource that gives you the knowledge to make better sets and come home with better images. There’s simply nothing else quite like it.”
Casey Anderson, Wildlife Filmmaker & National Geographic Explorer
“This book offers a clear, well‑researched overview of the region’s selected wildlife species. It focuses on the most useful animal behavior and identification details, including tracks, signs, and habitat—without unnecessary fluff. With its balanced mix of scientific accuracy, practical field tips, and helpful images, it’s a valuable reference for both new and experienced camera-trappers and wildlife enthusiasts. I learned some fascinating information by reading it.”
Mike Taras, Tracker, biologist, wildlife education & outreach with Alaska Dept Fish & Game
